Off-track betting down during Turfway’s Holiday Meet
The loss of two major outlets that carry its televised races impacted betting during Turfway Park’s annual Holiday Meet, the racetrack said Thursday. On-track wagering fell 1 percent, but betting from all sources, including off-track, was down 16.4 percent during the 27-day meet, which ran from Nov. 25 through Dec. 31, according to a news release. On-track betting totaled $3.4 million, and total betting came to $73.7 million, the thoroughbred track said. Two broadcasters of horse-racing events, AmericaTAB and International Racing Group, did not carry Turfway’s races during the meet, the track said. AmericaTAB became part of Tracknet Media Group and fell under an exclusive agreement that Turfway has with competitor TVG, said Robert Elliston, president of Turfway, in the release.
