Central Air Conditioning

Posted by admin

There are so many aspects to owning a home that it is hard to think through all of them when you are in the market to buy another one. My husband and I spent twelve years remodeling a five bed room rambler on twenty acres. First we had water problems in the crawl space under the house. We raised the house and put in several more courses of blocks to make a complete basement. This opened up many additional possibilities regarding what we could do with this additional space.

I love to people watch. I have a degree in social work and criminal justice and have worked in the human services filed for over twenty years. Even though there are times when I feel exhausted in dealing with human emotions, I still love to observe people in public.

Legionella in air conditioning

Posted by admin

There is a renewed call for buildings in Auckland’s CBD to test their air-conditioning systems for the Legionella bacteria. Two buildings tested positive to the potentially life threatening bacteria, which can be harboured in air-conditioning cooling systems. Medical Officer of Health Dr Cathy Pikholz says they are working closely with managers of buildings in the immediate vicinity. She says the bacteria can travel very easily, depending on weather conditions. Dr Pikholz says there is only a small risk of infection, and so far there have been no cases of Legionnaires disease from the infected towers.

Ilyce Glink: Air-conditioning unit’s age raising questions

Posted by admin

Q: I purchased a home two years ago. The seller stated in the seller disclosure form that the air-conditioner unit was 2 years old. My home inspector stated he had no issues with the functioning of the unit. The house appraiser listed that the unit was a “newer” unit. I went into this purchase believing we had a fairly new heating and air-conditioning system. Today, doing our first official checkup with an outside maintenance service company, we were told we needed a whole new unit. I told him that it was only 4 years old and wondered why we’d need a new one. He thought I was joking, as it turns out the unit is actually 12 years old. The serial number dates back to 1995. We are wondering who we can hold responsible for lying to us and what options we have now that it has been two years since closing.

A Pulaski County grand jury has indicted a couple, accusing them of locking three of their children in a hot bedroom while the man and woman slept with air conditioning. The indictments charge 30-year-old Patrick O’Conner and 24-year-old Felicia O’Conner of one count each of first-degree criminal abuse. Authorities found the couple’s 3- and 4-year-old children and their 7-month-old baby locked in a sweltering bedroom without even a fan in August. Police reported the parents had two fans in their bedroom and an air conditioner in the living area.

The three children in the home and a fourth sibling were taken into protective custody. The parents are held in lieu of $50,000 bond each.
