An Arkansas woman stranded for more than 13 hours on an American Airlines flight in December 2006 has filed a lawsuit against the airline.  Filed in Arkansas’ Washington County circuit court on Dec. 27, Catherine Ray is seeking class action status. The lawsuit charges, among other things, false imprisonment, negligence and breech of contract. It says American’s action was motivated by greed and a desire for profit. The suit seeks unspecified damages.  While American has said stormy weather over Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport delayed the flights, the lawsuit says flights were delayed for fewer than three hours by bad weather.  Fort Worth-based American Airlines Inc. didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment. American serves Sacramento International Airport.

A United Airlines flight from Washington, D.C. to Seattle was diverted to Pittsburgh because of an unruly passenger.  Pittsburgh International Airport spokeswoman JoAnn Jenny says the male passenger was taken off the flight Sunday evening and questioned by the FBI. FBI Special Agent William Crowley says initial reports indicated the passenger acted inappropriately toward a flight attendant but it wasn’t immediately clear if charges were to be filed.  United Flight 917 left Dulles International Airport carrying 182 passengers at 6:08 p.m. and landed in Pittsburgh at 7:07 p.m. The flight continued on to Seattle at 9:35 p.m.

New Delhi, Dec. 31 Domestic flights could cost less in the New Year. With aviation turbine fuel costing 4 per cent less in January vis-a-vis the previous month, domestic airlines indicated on Monday that they could look at reducing the fuel surcharge on some routes.  “The surcharge is likely to come down. It would be difficult to quantify the decline since on long haul flights most airlines recover their costs while this is not the case on flights which are of less than 90 minutes duration,” the Executive Chairman of low cost airline SpiceJet, Mr. Siddhanta Sharma, said. At the moment, most airlines impose a surcharge of Rs 2,025 to offset the increasing ATF prices.  A spokesperson for Air Deccan said a decision on whether the surcharge should be lowered was likely to be taken by Wednesday (January 2).
